This course provides an introduction to research-based teaching strategies, developmentally appropriate basic locomotor, non-locomotor, rhythmic, and manipulative physical activities as guided by Iowa Department of Education’s PE Standards and Society of Health and Physical Educators (SHAPE) National Standards and Grade-Level Outcomes for K-5 Physical Education. Students are expected to concurrently apply developmentally appropriate practices by planning, teaching, and assessing PreK-5 grade students. The course includes at least 15 hours of observation and practicum in a PreK-5 school setting. In cases where it is logistically impossible for practicum placements, peer-clinicals will be used for experiential learning.
