This course is an introduction to the technical,
analytical and theoretical skills related to painting. Students will work with acrylic
paint to develop a thorough understanding of image construction through color
and mark-making. While perceptual painting is a major component of the class,
varied methods of paint application, sensitivity to color and critical analysis
of one’s own work are also stressed. Working with still life, landscape, human
figures and abstraction, students will learn a wide variety of technical
painting skills and also bolster their visual literacy and critical reasoning
skills. Course format consists primarily of studio work. The course instructor provides
guidance through lecture, demonstration, individual feedback and critique.
