Neuroscience is an extremely diverse field ranging from molecular and cellular biology to behavioral observation.  This course begins with the fundamental units of the nervous system—neurons and glia.  We will examine how these units form circuits that process specific types of information forming sensory, motor and integrative systems.  We also will discuss diseases of the nervous system and how neurons respond to neuroactive substances.  The laboratory will consist of observation of human brains, examining the physiology of neurons, and neuronal responses to neurotransmitters and drugs.
