Good question and one that would take me a long time to explain.  In effect, some T-helper cells can direct B-cells to become mature and make antibodies via particular T-helper cytokines.  Some B-cells require this interaction and some do not.  That implies that there are different kinds of B cells.  Take immunology with me for the full story.
