Learning requires raising questions that stem from reasoning, curiosity, and empathy.  Through questioning, we become informed citizens and scholars.  This first year seminar will explore varied pathways to knowing.  As we consider how to live and work in a quickly changing world, we will raise enduring questions about what really matters to us and our communities.  Through careful reading, creative and critical thinking, speaking and writing, we will engage with a variety of texts from many genres and disciplinary perspectives.  Your instructor will serve as a guide along this path by encouraging you to consider different perspectives and ways of learning as you start to define areas for your own growth as a college student.

The student success component of your First Year Seminar (FYS) extends beyond the first block, to encompass activities and response assignments throughout Blocks 1, 2, and 3.   Block 1 focuses on time management with an emphasis on helping you manage your academic responsibilities, campus involvement, and personal wellbeing. Block 2 emphasizes identity mapping, and Block 3 focuses on academic planning and future opportunities.
