Philip Greenspun is a retired computer scientist, who was an early developer and entrepreneur of data backed websites. Greenspun has taught at MIT in electrical engineering and computer science. One of his students, Randal Pinkett, built an online community for residents in low income housing. Greenspun founded photo.net, which is an online community for people to help each other with their photographic skills. He then released the software for photo.net as a free toolkit. He wrote many textbooks on internet applications, to help teach at MIT. He then started a company to sell services for his toolkit, which he kept free. In December of 2013, he donated $10,000 to Kids on Computers to help set up computers in areas where kids do not have the money and technology to have computers. It was a non-profit donation, which has helped many kids get the computers and technology they needed.
