Helen Pope talked a bit about the biases that contribute to the quality of care for incarcerated people. But I was wondering if the struggles for quality of care might be similar for those with drug addiction. To my knowledge there isn't any laws that prevent quality of care but conscious or unconscious biases could effect the quality of care that a doctor or nurse may give to such a person. And since New Orleans has such a high population of drug user this seems like it could be a serious issue for the state.
It is a serious issue for Louisiana. Yes, I am sure there are biases against drug addicts. Unfortunately, these stigmas will not go away soon but we can hope.
