A particular drug trial was brought up today, where some subjects took medicine to boost their immune system and it ended in several cases of total organ failure. I'm wondering why it is possible for the immune system to do something like that? How could it ever be a good thing for our immune system to do that much damage?
My best guess is that ideally, they only attack infected cells on an organ usually, and that some kind of overreaction is occurring for the immune system to go that far.
