If someone that is just starting to show symptoms of COVID-19 comes in contact with a more severe patient and contract the virus even more, does that accelerate the infection process of the initial patient?

maybe.  however, the immune response against the original infection is still ongoing, so becoming infected a second time may or may not have an effect
