I was at the store today and saw a lady yelling at a younger gentleman for not wearing a facemask.  Is this something that is going to start happening more and more frequently? Should we really be expecting people to wear a face mask? If you don't want to, then should we get upset if you do not?

Also, what are our responsibilities to other people? should this be something that we are responsible for?

Since masks don't actually block the virus, I don't think it's right to yell at someone else for not wearing one. Unless they're actively coughing (in which case stay away from them) or they're within 6ft of you, their mask wearing isn't going to affect you. There's really no point in getting upset at someone for not wearing a mask.

Wearing a mask decreases viral spread from the wearer, does not protect the bystander.  With the possibility of asymptomatic spread of the virus, everyone should be wearing a mask even if masks are not that effective.  Remember that a mask is also going to change your behavior; you are more conscious of staying away from other people while wearing a mask.

I simply avoid anyone not wearing a mask.
