There are multiple state that are starting the process of slowly opening up. There is a lot of news on how we should not open yet and how it will lead to an increase in deaths. We talked about flattening the curve in the beginning of class. Would the number of deaths expected by opening the country still be the same as if we tried to flatten the curve? Or would the lack of health care lead to higher numbers? Could opening the country be beneficial as more people would have immunity?
All good questions without answers at this time. There will probably be an upswing in cases and deaths, but as more people are exposed to the virus and develop immunity, then we hope to see a decline in both cases and deaths. The problem is that we do not know if immunity will really protect against the virus, and we do not know how long that immunity will last.
