If the influenza virus strain mutates almost every year, why do we bother getting the new vaccine every year if we are likely to get sick with the new strain of the virus anyway? I get the flu shot every year, but I also catch the flu every year. If that's the case for others as well, would you recommend people continue to get vaccinated anyway?

Oh definitely get a flu shot!  The purpose of the flu shot is not to prevent the flu but to lessen the severity of the flu.  And influenza viruses do not necessarily mutant every year.  Also, there is some cross-reactivity which means that the vaccine might work against a new mutated strain.
