At the hospitals in my hometown, they are getting antibodies test for COVID-19. How accurate is this test do you think?
Antibody testing, also called serologic testing, is fairly accurate. However, the test will only pick up an antibody 2-3 weeks after infection. Testing earlier than that will result in a negative test because it takes 2-3 weeks for the body to mount an adaptive immune response and make antibodies. In addition, serologic testing does not show you if the antibody you made actually did anything to clear the virus. So just because you test positive and have made antibodies does not mean that you are immune.
