The reactions to different Covid like viruses through this century. Why don’t we use the same methods to prevent more infection?

I am not sure what you mean about the reactions to previous viruses.  All viruses are different and cause different reactions in humans.  We learn from previous epidemics/pandemics and try to change our behavior.  Could we try to prevent the diseases caused by viruses the same way.  Yes!  But this is what is trying to be done but people have not seen a virus like this in their lifetime.  So, humans being humans, we just don't believe this virus will cause US any problems.  Emphasis on US!  Sort of like cancer; we all think it won't happen to U so we don't change our behavior.  

Prevention is difficult when it comes to behavioral changes.
