My mom works as a nurse for an OBGYN. Her coworkers say that the COVID-19 can affect the pregnancy and fetus when a pregnant patient gets the virus. Is this true? Because on the news and the video we watched today in the class, it did not say if the virus affected pregnant people, only people who were over 60 or smoked.
The virus can infect anyone, any age. Over 60 just have more problems handling the disease. So far, there have been no reports of any pregnancy-related problems or with any problems with developing fetuses. Several studies have indicated normal deliveries of babies to mothers who have COVID-19. Zika viral infection does cause problems so this is being carefully watched. But no indications have been found that SARS-CoV-2 has any effect on development or pregnancy.
