We hear on the news and read in articles that once people get the Coronavirus they get put on a ventilator to help them survive. But we still have a long number of deaths. Are the ventilators working they way they should be or is it backfiring?
From what I know, when a patient is put on a ventilator they're already in very bad condition, which is why many people who get ventilators die anyway. A ventilator is helpful but it's not going to help most patients. It'd be like having extra heart transplants prepared for people with high cholesterol. Sure, high cholesterol could lead to needing one, but not until the person's condition gets really bad.
Yes, Megumi is correct. someone is not put on a ventilator until absolutely necessary and at that point, they may already be beyond help.
