Why do we use mice for research like trying to stop TMPRSS2 role in Sars-Cov-2. Are mice the best substitute for how this may effect humans?

Mice are cheap, are easily bred, and grow quickly.  Scientist use animals like mice to test a substance on another mammal before trying it out on humans.  I use zebrafish to test out substances.  Zebrafish are actually becoming the model of choice for examining human diseases.  Mice and zebrafish are not perfect models but they are a start.
